Stack’s Bowers Galleries will auction the world’s most famous collection of Carson City coins on August 9, 2012 in Philadelphia. The Battle Born Collection, the only complete 111-piece set of coins from the Carson City Mint in existence, is expected to sell for between $11 million and $15 million. Stack’s Bowers will sell each of the 111 pieces individually.

The one coin that everyone is talking about is the unique 1873-CC Liberty Seated, Without Arrows, dime. The sole survivor from an original production run of 12,400 pieces, is expected to fetch between $1.5 million and $4 million. This key to the Carson City Mint coin series has been offered for sale fewer than 10 times over the past 139 years.

The auction will begin at 6:00 p.m. on August 9 in the Stack’s Bowers auction room at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, at 1101 Arch Street in Philadelphia.
