Here are my three 1880-CC dollars. The first is the 80/79 version. PCGS MS62. The second is the 1880-CC 8 over High 7. The third is the 1880-CC 8 over Low 7. The High 7 and Low 7 are in GSA holders. Both purchased raw and graded MS63. They are virtually identical in appearance. The PCGS coin was probably originally a GSA coin too, but is not attributed on the holder as such. It just has that look of a typical GSA MS62.

Nice coins, I was writting an article that included these three vams. I like the variety in the '80 overdates.

Yes it is very interesting that it included all mints that year. It would be interesting if some correspondence could be unearthed that would explain why that happened.

I had a chance to get the VAM 4 in a GSA holder also but missed the opportunity. It would be nice to have all three in GSA holders.

It's very possible to get the VAM 4, 5, and 6 in GSA holders. The population for the VAM varieties 80 CCs is fairly high. Of course, the higher the grade, the more expensive the coin.
The real show stopper to a collection of the 1880 CC VAMS is the VAM 7: 80cc rev of 78. That's one tough VAM to pick up in a high grade. It's the VAM that also doesn't seem to able to step out of the shadows of the very popular VAM4: 80/79 rev of 78.

Hi Mitchell. I will have to look for that VAM 7. Its an R-4 rarity rating like the 4, 5 and 6, so it should be out there.
