An uncirculated Carson City Morgan Dollar weighs 26.73 grams. Would anyone know the weight of one of these dollars including the plastic certified NGC banded GSA holder? I wonder if there would be a noticeable weight difference of the plastic holders? Thanks, Glenn.

Glenn,

An NGC-graded "CC" GSA silver dollar in the original government hard pack weighs 98 grams. If you subtract the 26.73-gram weight of the dollar, you get 71.27 grams of weight in the plastic and the NGC band.

This almost sounds scientific, doesn't it?

Rusty,

Thanks for the specific information. It might come in handy is identifying counterfeit dollars in the GSA holders. Unless somehow, weight can be added to the holder?

This discussion started me thinking ..... how many CCCCOA members and forum guests weigh their "CC" coins to help authenticate them?
