Drummer, I enjoyed your article in Curry's Chronicles about your collection but seeing them in color I can appreciate them even more. Do you have any major varieties in this set?

Hi Loosechange
I'm glad you enjoy the articles. To answer your question; I don't think I have any major varieties in my set of "CC" half eagles. I do have a very nice 1878-CC quarter (NGC MS-65) toned very nicely...it is a "semi-cancelled" die variety. That would be about the only major variety I own. Here's a collage image of the coin:
Notice the die cancellation line right across Liberty's mid drift.
Hope you like it!

Nice coin, MS65 wow!! I have only seen two canceled die coins, yours and Maya's fromm her article in Curry's Chronicles. That variety is impressive. I wonder why the die got canceled and then got put back into service.

Hi Loosechange
"A scene from the "CC" mint in 1878"
"Go ahead and cancel that die for the 1878 seated quarter...we won't be striking any more...we're done for the year".......
"OK boss...will do..."
"WAIT!!......did you cancel it yet?"
"I just started on that boss....want me to stop?"
"Yep...we just got an order to strike more"
and that my friend...is how that happened!

Thanks for the explanation. Basically not unlike the Mint of today!
