COIN WORLD Reviews Curry's Chronicle Articles was created by coindrummer
Hi all "CC" fans....check out the latest issue of Coin World (July 6, 2009) and see a great review of articles from the Curry's Chronicle summer issue. The CW article is entitled 'Writer offers tips to diversify collection of "CC" Trade dollars' which features James Sneddon and his article(s) on "CC" Trade dollar collection ideas. The CW article goes on to review Weimer W. White and his article on 1891-CC Coronet gold half eagles; John Crane's connection to the Comstock Lode; Otto Klay and his article exploring the differences between today's coin production methods and those of the Carson City Mint during those years of operation; Paul Sudmeier with his article on studies of the history of the Redfield silver dollar hoard; Richard Kelly and Nancy Oliver and their article on injuries and other difficulties encountered at the Carson Mint, and Maya Roberts article on the short-lived Seated Liberty 20-cent coin series. The CW article closes by listing the cost of C4OA membership, and how to join. It's nice to see these positive reviews of the Curry's Chronicle in major publications like CW. Keep up all the good work everyone!

Jim Sneddon's piece made the headline of that article. Way to go Jim!

The C4OA is always grateful for any publicity it receives from the numismatic press.
Since the beginning--summer issue 2005--we have sent copies of each new Curry's Chronicle to Coin World (that publication has all 16 issues to date in its library).
For the first 10 issues of Curry's Chronicle released, Coin World published reviews, similar to the one that Michael refers to. These 10 reviews always attracted new members, for which we were thankful (we also received great publicity for our October 2006 Carson Mint/Comstock seminar).
A format change in Coin World (to a magazine-style publication), combined with an editorial policy change, limited the exposure given to the C4OA, starting with the spring 2009 issue until now. Naturally, our new sign-up totals diminshed. This trend should reverse itself, however, at least temporarily, with the new wave of publicity our club is currently receiving.
Not only did Coin World publish the review of the summer 2009 Curry's Chronicle, it also ran blurbs about our new Web site and our Carson City coin symposium scheduled in August at the L. A. ANA convention.
But wait, there's more. In the July issue of The Numismatist, the C4OA ran a half-page ad for the August symposium, and the editor of that publication ran a nice press release about our new Web site. Just for your information, we also send copies of every Curry's Chronicle to the ANA for its library. Occasionally, The Numismatist has published a review of our journal.
Even Numismatic News has run some recent blurbs about our new Web site and our symposium.
To top it off, coinlink.com mentioned C4OA's new Web site as a side note in an article it released about Southgate Coins recently buying three examples of 1876-CC 20-cent pieces. And, the Liberty Seated Coin Club has publicized our August symposium, since three of its key members (John McCloskey, Bill Bugert, and Darrell Low) are scheduled to speak at the event.
Our club depends on publicity such as that mentioned above to help us get the word out about who we are and what we offer. We are not a retail business and our budget doesn't allow us much advertising. So word of mouth and free publicity are our only means of attracting new members.
We appreciate the efforts of members like Garry Naples, who leaves a trail back to this Web site at the other online discussion boards he visits.
