Hi Garryn

I really enjoyed your informative article on the 1880-CC eagle.
I look forward to seeing a future article in the Curry's Chronicle.

I provided a picture here of a nice example of this date to go along with your post:

Gary,

I just returned from a business trip in Texas and read your interesting Coin of the Week article this morning. I was generally aware of the Comstock's declining production but your comparison of the hard facts was stunning. The massive decline in production caused me to wonder about an alternative history for the Carson City mint.

What if the Carson City mint had been enthusiastically supported from the beginning rather than maligned? What if the mint had been wholeheartedly relied upon for maximum production based on the tons of precious metals coming out of the region, rather than the underhanded, self-serving political pressuring for its closure, which threatened the facility from the beginning?

Given the Comstock's massive decline in mining production and the logically-ensuing, economic pressure such event would have placed on the mint's existence, I can't help but wonder if the historical timeline of the Carson City mint, as we know it, would have been too much different?

I agree with you Belay, if Carson City had been allowed to keep a healthy percentage of the value of the ore, they could have sustained enough work at least until the Morgan dollar was eliminated in 1904.

And thanks for the pics, Belay and Mike... !!

Garryn,

Great facts and the photos added by drummer and belayoff only add to my want to own an example of this fascinating date some day, even if its only in a VG10 holder!

I look forward to your next blockbuster!
