Here is my offering. 1882 saw a significant increase in production after 296,000 in 1881. The Mint on Carson Street reports that the total mintage is 1,139,000 after some adjustments made for fiscal year reporting. Of that, 605,000 were in the Treasury hoard. No doubt why so many mint state examples survive for the taking. Even with high production, there are only 5 varieties of 1882-CC known with another 5 sub varieties to account for significant clashing. One of these varieties, 2, 2A, 2B and 2C appears on the Hit List 40. Here is my 1882-CC. A nice PCGS 64 DMPL.
I also own a second, an NGC 64PL, the VAM 2A, with the misplaced 1 under the first 8.

1882-CC $1 as an investment. "Silver Dollar Encyclopedia" 2nd edition by Jim Osbon's, 1979, states:
"Stay away from 1882-CC $1 because of the tremendous quantity of Mint State coins released by the GSA. It will not be scarce for many years to come".
In MS65
1961 $9
1965 $21
1970 $37
GSA $30
1975 $34
1978 $50
Forcast for 1990 was $300
PCGS Price Guide today $575 for MS65 and $1,750 for DMPL MS65
