When it became evident that the Carson City Mint would coin no more silver dollars old dies on hand were returned to Philadelphia. At least six Morgan Dollar reverse dies were partly effaced in the mint mark area and overpunched with O mintmark. This resulted in 1900-O/CC
overmintmark variety coins.
Does anyone know if any of the reworked dies have been identified as having been used for 1893-CC $1 coins?

In 1893, The Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition petitioned for a souvenir quater dollar. The coin was designed by Charles E. Barber. These souvenirs quaters were sold for $1. The obverse has the crowned bust of Queen Isabella I of Spain.
Only 24,214 coins were minted.
Unfortunately, my example has been to a coin "doctor".
By the way, the icecream cone was invented at this Exposition.

Greetings "CC" fans
Not only was the ice cream cone unveiled at the great 1893 Columbian Expo in Chicago, but the Ferris wheel as well. An invention by George Washington Gail Ferris Jr.
The Ferris wheel was sometimes called the "Chicago Wheel". It was 264 feet tall and weighed a little over 71 tons. It was huge! It had 36 cars each fitted with 40 revolving chairs which could hold 60 people. The total capacity of the wheel was 2,160 people!
The Expo closed October 1893 but the Wheel continued to run until April 1894. It was dismantled, moved to Chicago's north side (near Lincoln Park), rebuilt and ran there from October 1896 to 1903. It was dismantled again and shipped by rail to St. Louis for the 1904 World's Fair. It was finally destroyed by controlled demolition on May 11, 1906.

Coin Drummer... you mentioned George Ferris, I looked him up and here is what I found in Wikipedia in the first sentence of his biography...
"George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. (February 14, 1859 - November 22, 1896) was born in Galesburg, Illinois and his family sold their dairy farm and moved to Carson City, Nevada when Ferris was five years old. His family later relocated to California, and Ferris attended high school in Oakland, California."
It all comes full circle...
