Another way to look at your collection or to supplement it, would be to put together a grading set. One coin each from Good to MS-60+. Mint state and well-worn coins should not be a problem locating. But some coins in the middle grades maybe a real challenge.

One can always buy a complete set of coins, but that does not present much challenge. The trill of the chase is part of the numismatic game, and without it, there is little appeal. A challenge is needed yielding "bragging rights". Mistakes will be made, but from mistakes we learn, as long as they are not fatal mistakes. In my opinion, buying a complete set is not collecting, it's investing.

How about a little different, a little more challenging "new collecting", putting together a grading set.

What is cool about this one is that he wrote the check to another prominent Carson City person, George Bell, the Postmaster, who has more biographical information out there than Ted Hofer
