Mike and John,
I like the new ideas that both of you have posed and I will follow up with you guys on both.
I have volunteered to handle some of the logistics for the club meeting on August 27th. If we are to introduce other features to the this club meeting, or future gatherings, two things will be necessary.
First, the meeting hours will have to be extended. The main show and tell portion that everyone enjoys so much takes at least 2+ hours all by itself. I will talk to the Museum folks to see what restrictions they might have, if any, on the time period for our use of the auditorium.
Second, I would need volunteers to design, set up and run any other meeting activities, such as an auction or whatever, subject to the club President's approval, of course.
I have talked to Rusty many times about these kinds of ideas and can tell you that he is in favor of considering new ideas for the club as long as there are C4OA members willing to run with them and carry them through to fruition. He founded the C4OA and it's his dream to see it grow in size and features through the talents and energies of its members.
Most club members dont know that Rusty, Marie and their staff volunteer their time (and money) to support the Club by editing and publishing Curry's Chronicle themselves as well as administering the C4OA web site and a ton of other things. The C4OA is still in its infancy and does not yet bring in enough money to fully pay for these great benefits we members enjoy and Rusty and Marie have generously underwritten the difference themselves every year in order to give this great coin club its start. But this can't go on forever so we members need to find ways to make the C4OA self sufficient.
This is one reason why I volunteered to help set up the club meeting in August and will continue to participate in the future. My Carson City coin collection (Registry - Rian's Bequeath Collection) will eventually go to my granddaughter who is now only 5 years old. It's my hope that she will enjoy and participate in the Carson City Coin Collectors Club when she owns these coins as an adult.
Thanks again for the cool ideas...I'll get back to you guys.
Best regards...Belay Off
PS: I would love to hear from other Carson City Coin Club members with their ideas and suggestions and promise to address every one.

I'd be happy to help out. I'm really looking forward to the show. I've got some other ideas as well, but we can take it one step at a time.

Mike,
That's terrific..thank you. I would very much like to hear your ideas. The more volunteers the club has the more likely we can expand upon our endeavors. I will get back to you and Randy soon.
The C4OA meeting at the Mint in Carson City this August is already gathering serious momentum!!!
Rusty tells me he's heard from several members who did not make the August meeting last year, but who will be attending in 2010. I too have acquired several new CC coins this year and look forward to showing and discussing them with everyone.
Randy is keeping us in suspense about a special project he is working on and will bring to the August meeting.
Michael Parrot will perform a 20 minute drum solo during intermission.... just kidding....though that is something i would love to hear.
