PCGS vs NGC was created by Carson Sink
I prefer PCGS holders over NGC. In my opinion, they have a superior look, yet as I begin my search for CC gold, it is becoming more and more apparent that I will have to contend with NGC holders.
I am interested in "dirty gold" that is, gold in the area of XF. For one thing, they are cheaper and the other is they have "stories" that I can tell my grandchildren about.
I guess my question is this: Is NGC the holder of choice for gold and especially CC gold? If so, why? It seems as I scour the internet, the majority of the gold coins that I find are slabbed by NGC. I'm sure there is a reason for this. Are NGC graders not as tight as PCGS when it comes to gold? Is it cheaper? Are they easier to sell when slabbed by NGC?
Believe me folks, I know the "Buy the coin, not the holder" spiel. That isn't what this post is about. Pure and simple, I want my coins slabbed by PCGS and I don't want the added expense of playing the crossover game.
So far, as I begin my journey into CC gold, I have only purchased three coins. They are in (you guessed it!) NGC holders. Eventually, I'll be sending them in for crossovers at PCGS. I'm beginning to wonder what the results will be.

Maybe people just like the gold against the white background.
I dont have any preference between PCGS or NGC. Except some people are of the opinion that NGC is having trouble with attributions, VAMs in particular.
Some people believe PCGS grades more conservatively than NGC. People are lucky to have their coins cross in the same grade, much less upgraded. Particularly, PCGS, I hear, is looking closely at toning and many coins are coming back in Genuine holders marked "artificial toning".
The PCGS Secure Plus service is going to be a positive addition to the marketplace and will gain them some market share.

My favorite is the gold in a PCGS OGH. I think the green label looks the best with gold. I have no idea why. I always prefer a PCGS slab overall.

The prolification of NGC's might be the result of the ANA's endorsement. Possibly???
