Drummer, with the lowest mintage of the CC half eagles how long did it take you to find this date? In viewing your collection the fun of this great club is I get to pick your brain on my favorite coins. The half eagle was such a workhorse denomination that I am really surprised that as many survived as they did. This is an R-5 coin with a total of 55-65 coins known.

Hi Loosechange
I certainly don't mind my brain getting "picked" at all - when it comes to one of our favorite subjects in the world!
My 1876-CC $5 was secured for me by the world's foremost expert on Carson City coins.. the one...the only (drum roll please ***************************** Boom...Crash! Rusty Goe!!!
I purchased it from him in May of 2004.
The coin would've certainly graded higher if not for a noticable scratch over the face of Ms. Liberty on the obverse. The coin was discounted because of that. The reverse looks (and is) in the AU range for sure. Over-all, this coin is a nice match to my collection and is certainly a truly scarce coin in any and all grade levels.
