Thank you Deepsouthspike

I really enjoy your COW posts too. You've added a "breath of fresh air" to the project. I especially enjoy your idea of using multiple pics in your posts....it served to inspire me to do a bit of the same...it adds yet another dimension to the ever growing quality of all our posts.

Drummer,

I had to take notes there was so much info crammed into your 1880-CC Half Eagle posting. You did a lot of reading and research to put this all together. As we've often said, that's half the fun of writing these articles isn't it?

I particularly enjoyed the two images of Carson City. I've seen the photo of King Street somewhere before but not the other one. Where did you find it?

Carson City: 51,017
Philadelphia: 3,166,436
San Francisco: 1,348,900

Wouldn't it be interesting to know just how much of the gold that made up San Francisco's 1,348,900 half eagles actually came from the Comstock?

Great job writing a thoroughly enjoyable article Drummer!

Hi Belay

Writing these posts has proven to be a most effective way of learning about our beloved "CC" coins and as you said..."fun!!"

The picture of Carson Street circa 1880's can also be seen in Rusty Goe's book The Mint on Carson Street (page 75)....I got my copy from the Library of Congress - prints and Photos Division - Historic American Buildings. There's tons of great pictures on their site and is worth spending some time with.

I've heard that much of the gold and silver bullion used in SF mint coins did indeed come from the Comstock mines. This is worth a separate story unto its own.

Thank you for reading and enjoying my post.
