Fun find...... GSA stand-up

Carsoncityexchange2009 aka Bryan Sonnier has been a long time GSA dealer. I ran into him back in the early 90s when I was pre-occupied with the classic commemorative coins. I wasn't much into GSAs then but I picked up the 90-91 pair from him because I thought they were too cheap. Back then, he was really into GSAs and grabbing anything cool he could find. I imagine back then, he was buying things for a song (sigh). He's a pretty nice guy and could talk your ear off too.

Today, he's moving on and spreading the "wealth" while sucking all of us GSA collector's wallets dry! Watching his auctions has been fun and participating in a few has been expensive and stressful. Contrary to the "conventional" thinking that GSA material is too common, his auctions have validated my position that the GSA collector base is strong and will step up for rare and original GSA material be it coins OR associated documentation. Yes, there are a million GSA 1884CC dollars in MS61. However, consider these Sonnier items and the final prices:

1. Unique GSA packaged 1864 seated dollar - final price: $10,200
2. Non-CC GSA encapsulated 1880-O (a MS61 coin) - final price: $13K
3. GSA packaged 1884-CC error - final price $640
4. GSA standups at around $900 EACH

I know most of the buyers - they are serious collectors who will not be selling any their new purchases for a long time.

Can you believe some of the prices? $13K for an 1880-O in a GSA hardpack! $10,200 for a GSA sealed seated dollar!

I know the new owner of the soft-pack GSA - he's a hard-core GSA fanatic and was prepared to go beyond the final hammer price to secure the coin.

GSA's if we had only known. Who would have thought that they would be this popular. I am sure glad that I never popped one out to get it graded, it would take away the whole purpose I guess.

Thanks for the link Drummer I have drooled over that coin many times. Mitchell the first standup image is one that I have never seen before. The second one I was able to obtain with some persuasion from the dealer at a local coin show. I eagerly look forward to your article Mitchell!!!. I need to get my butt into gear here as I have acquired some neat Carson City Mint related items and would like to share the images. I will try my best to get them out there for all to see.
