Welcome Carson Sink
It's always nice to see and hear of new C4OA members like yourself who show the avid interest as you do. Your introduction reflects your passion and spirit.
I look forward to your articles in our C4OA journal Curry's Chronicle. Bruce T (Belay Off) suggested you purchase The book The Mint on Carson Street by Rusty Goe. That is a great idea! This book will definitely help to inspire and guide you into the fascinating and unique world of Carson City coins, the most glorious set of coins in all of numismatics!
We all hope to meet you at one of our future C4OA get-togethers. There's a great one coming up later this summer (Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 - C4OA Regional Meeting) in Carson City at the beautiful old Carson mint building (now home of the Nevada State Museum)and birthplace of the very "CC" coins we are all so enamoured with. You'd have loads of fun I assure you. At this event, you will experience first hand the infectious exhuberence that all of us members have. This would be a great way to welcome you aboard!

P.S. That's a very interesting "handle" you have there..."Carson Sink." You'll have to explain that one in a future Curry's article.

Thank you everyone, for your kind words of welcome and advice. I really do want to go to the regional meeting in Carson City. I don't know when it will be though. I can't think of anything neater than going through the Carson City Mint Building. I am a lover of history and my imagination runs wild when I visit these places. A few years ago, down in Las Vegas, I traipsed through hot desert sand and climbed over rock just so I could look at Mouse's Tank and imagine what it must have been like to be there. I'll not say anything more about Mouse's Tank, you'll have to look it up yourselves.
A little update on my beginning CC collection. I now have a few CC coins:
1884 CC $1 PCGS MS66
1892 CC $5 NGC AU50
1881 CC $10 NGC XF45
There is a double eagle that I am looking at but nothing definate yet.
I like dirty gold coins the best. The dirt and crust gives me story lines for my two littlest grandkids. Since the coins can't talk, it'll be up to me to tell the story about the stagecoach robberies, poker games, posse chases, etc., that they were involved in. It'll be up to me to make these coins legendary and believe me, this old man is up to that task.
I know, I know, ...buy the book first. Well I have, it just hasn't arrived yet. I purchased "Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint" the other day. I'm looking forward to going through that one.
It was suggested that I explain my handle, Carson Sink. Interesting thought. That might be a good project for me but I can't promise anything. I will need my computer literate daughter to help me set it up. I do like the idea though.
Anyway, thanks again for the warm words.
